What’s an artist brand book, and what’s actually in it?
When we talk about building an artist brand, we’re not talking about inventing a persona, creating a logo, choosing three colors and calling it a day.
Actually, the opposite.
The artist persona is already there.
Our role is to ask the right questions to identify what makes an artist distinctive, bring those characteristics to the surface and create a coherent story around them.
We start with the person and the music, not with aesthetics.
We look at questions like:
→ What do you want people to feel when they experience your music?
→ Who are you actually speaking to?
→ What world does your music live in?
From there, we build the logo and then the artist brand book: a strategic and visual foundation that translates the artist persona into everything people will eventually see, hear and associate with them.
Depending on the artist, it includes:
Brand foundation
Purpose, vision, values, positioning and the bigger idea behind the artist.
Artist personality & archetypes
Identifying the characteristics that already exist and defining which ones we want to highlight consistently.
Audience & cultural context
Understanding who we want to connect with and where the artist fits within the wider music and cultural landscape.
Visual world
Creative direction, photography, colors, typography and references that translate the artist's personality into a recognizable visual language.
Tone of voice & storytelling
How the artist speaks, what they talk about and how their personality translates into captions, interviews, press texts and content.
Content direction
Themes, formats and recurring ideas that make social media feel like an extension of the artist rather than another marketing obligation.
Style & embodiment
How the brand comes to life through the artist themselves: from clothing, accessories and styling to photography, stage presence, interviews and the way they show up online and offline.
The result is not a constructed artist persona.
It’s a clearer, more intentional version of what was already there.
We create the storytelling around it and translate it into logo, photography, tonality, fashion, content and communication, so all these different touchpoints start telling the same story.
And that clarity makes future decisions easier.
Does this visual feel like me?
Should I take this collaboration?
How should I communicate this release?
What should I wear for this shoot?
What kind of content makes sense for me?
A good artist brand book becomes the foundation for answering those questions.
Because the strongest artist brands don’t feel constructed.
They feel inevitable.
